The appointment to the panel is non-remunerative. Only panel lawyers get remunerative project assignments. The professional starts earning a fee from the time a project is assigned and not before that.
There are range of projects depending on our clients' requirements and they include corporate advisory services, contract management and litigation support.
The minimum period is 30 days.
Depending upon the nature and duration of the assignment, we generate a monthly invoice or a one-time invoice for payment.
All requisite costs are built into our Heads of Terms, on the basis of the discussion and mutually agreed fee model. There are no hidden costs.
There are instances when the company does not have the resources or headcount approval for a permanent hire. The company's legal requirements could also be on a short-term (project oriented) basis. A secondment can easily address these situations and result in the optimum utilisation of resources.
Managing confidentiality and adhering to ethical business conduct is crucial to the efficacy of the secondment model. Our Counselect professionals have stringent confidentiality obligations via a direct confidentiality agreement between Counselect and the professional. Where the Client requires, a direct confidentiality agreement may be signed with the Counselect professional. The professional has a cooling off period of a mutually agreed upon duration post the completion of the assignment before taking on any other assignment in the same industry.
Based on the preliminary discussions between Counselect and client are completed, Counselect will endeavour to find the apt professional who can begin the assignment as soon as possible. Some of our professionals have been able to join a project within a few days of final selection. Others may have a notice period of 2 to 4 weeks. It would be reliant on the nature of the project and the particulars of the professional required.
In case a professional is unavailable for a period of more than three working days, Counselect will provide a replacement professional pre-approved by the client. There is no additional fee for this support.
The term of secondment assignments can be from 30 days to 18 months.
There is no upper limit on the number of secondment assignments or number of professionals.
While requirements and benchmarks vary, our study and analyses have shown that Counselect is 30-50% more economical than a law firm secondment.
We do not encourage clients to place the secondment professionals into a full-time role. We put in substantial efforts in grooming these candidates and developing them for secondment assignments. The skill-set requirements and professional aspirations are not necessarily complementary to what is required for a full-time role.
While we do not encourage a conversion of Counselect professionals to full-time roles, the option is available if both client and professional, so choose. There will be a conversion fee payable in such cases.
