Would a panel member start earning fees from Counselect once they get empanelled?

The appointment to the panel is non-remunerative. Only panel lawyers get remunerative project assignments. The professional starts earning a fee from the time a project is assigned and not before that.

What type of assignments/projects are offered?

There are range of projects depending on our clients' requirements and they include corporate advisory services, contract management and litigation support.

What is the minimum duration a professional can be seconded?

The minimum period is 30 days.

What are the payment terms for the secondment?

Depending upon the nature and duration of the assignment, we generate a monthly invoice or a one-time invoice for payment.

Is Counselect going to charge extra from the client?

All requisite costs are built into our Heads of Terms, on the basis of the discussion and mutually agreed fee model. There are no hidden costs.

Why are the advantages of secondment assignments over a regular full-time hiring of a resource?

There are instances when the company does not have the resources or headcount approval for a permanent hire. The company's legal requirements could also be on a short-term (project oriented) basis. A secondment can easily address these situations and result in the optimum utilisation of resources.

How is the confidentiality maintained by Counselect between the client and the professional?

Managing confidentiality and adhering to ethical business conduct is crucial to the efficacy of the secondment model. Our Counselect professionals have stringent confidentiality obligations via a direct confidentiality agreement between Counselect and the professional. Where the Client requires, a direct confidentiality agreement may be signed with the Counselect professional. The professional has a cooling off period of a mutually agreed upon duration post the completion of the assignment before taking on any other assignment in the same industry.

How soon can you assign a professional on secondment

Based on the preliminary discussions between Counselect and client are completed, Counselect will endeavour to find the apt professional who can begin the assignment as soon as possible. Some of our professionals have been able to join a project within a few days of final selection. Others may have a notice period of 2 to 4 weeks. It would be reliant on the nature of the project and the particulars of the professional required.

How is business continuity maintained?

In case a professional is unavailable for a period of more than three working days, Counselect will provide a replacement professional pre-approved by the client. There is no additional fee for this support.

How long can I second a professional for?

The term of secondment assignments can be from 30 days to 18 months.

What is the maximum number of professionals a client can engage?

There is no upper limit on the number of secondment assignments or number of professionals.

How cost effective is the secondment model?

While requirements and benchmarks vary, our study and analyses have shown that Counselect is 30-50% more economical than a law firm secondment.

Can I place the professional on a secondment assignment into a full-time role?

We do not encourage clients to place the secondment professionals into a full-time role. We put in substantial efforts in grooming these candidates and developing them for secondment assignments. The skill-set requirements and professional aspirations are not necessarily complementary to what is required for a full-time role.

Can I convert the professional on a secondment assignment into a full-time role?

While we do not encourage a conversion of Counselect professionals to full-time roles, the option is available if both client and professional, so choose. There will be a conversion fee payable in such cases.
