Five years ago, we officially registered Counselect—a milestone that marked the beginning of many firsts.

Counselect was born out of an insight we gained from our work at Vahura. As legal recruiters and consultants, we spent enough time embedded with our clients to deeply understand the challenges they were facing. We realized that great legal talent was essential, but the options were limited – expensive outsourcing with limited control, or hiring full-time resources that added administrative complexity. We set out to solve this problem, becoming India’s first legal secondment specialist.

In the last 5 years, we have successfully closed over 600 mandates, and built a panel of 1500+ professionals. As we spent more time embedded with our clients’ legal departments, another insight emerged – the legal department was trapped in a low-value cycle, plagued by inefficiencies and siloed operations that kept them from contributing strategic value to the business.

Rather than settling for quick fixes, we set out to reimagine the legal department. The question we asked ourselves: How can we help the legal department unlock its full potential? This year, we launched Counselect 2.0, pioneering integrated solutions to transform legal departments into drivers of business value.

From a team of three to eighteen, Counselect is set to grow quickly. We are a restless, geeky bunch – passionate specialists in business, legal tech, and talent management who have come together with a common goal: to modernize the legal function. We’re not content to fill gaps; we want to fix the bigger issues. And we’re doing it in partnership with legal tech platforms and astute professionals who share a common vision. These are the pioneers who aren’t afraid to lead change within their departments and across the industry. To them, we owe how far we’ve come and where we’re headed.

What’s next for Counselect? A brand new identity, and a revamped website are just the beginning. We’re just getting started on our mission to reimagine the future of law. Stay tuned for many more firsts to come.
